You only have a few seconds to capture the attention of someone landing on your page, so make it worthwhile. Want people to read your bio + decide to stay on your page, scroll your posts or visit your link? Of course you do! Here’s how you do it...
TIP 1: SEARCHABLE AREAS
There are the only 2 searchable areas in your bio.
A) The first is your ‘username’ which is your IG handle / account name. This should be as close to your business name as possible. Ideally you want to make it easy enough to tell people without having to spell it.
B) The second is your ‘name’. Instead of simply using your name, rather think of what people would search for when looking for a biz like yours. This may be the industry you’re in eg. Hairdresser NYC or it might be more specific eg. Best Blow Dry in NYC. If there is space you can add your name eg. Sara | Hairdresser NYC but if there isn’t you can always add it to the bio if you’d like.
NOTE: if you’re using pretty, stylized characters (or any additional keyboard) in these areas they are NOT searchable!
TIP 2: WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT?
Make use of all 150 characters allowed in your bio. This is where you explain more about what people can expect from your business and if they were to follow your account. If you find this looks too busy then you can create a list of shorter points which are easier to review. You only have a few seconds to capture the attention of someone landing on your page, so make it worthwhile.
TIP 3: WHERE ARE YOU SENDING THEM?
You have the opportunity to include a link to your website / wherever you want your followers to visit, use this wisely. If you have a particular landing page you’re directing all your sales funnels towards – choose that, if you have numerous links that your follower might be looking for then I recommend using an app like Linktr.ee, where you have one link that opens up to a menu of further options.
